May 11, 18, 25 (Thursdays, 6:30pm-8:30pm): Introduction to Art Journaling Series

Art journaling combines habitual self-expression with a wide variety of mixed media art techniques in a fun and rewarding art-as-therapy practice. Whether you’re looking for a more colorful way to chronicle your thoughts and experiences, wanting to expand your personal artistic practice, or anything in between, art journaling can help! Each session will touch on mixed media techniques to create a fully-finished page. Blank journals will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own journal (blank book, sketchbook, graph pad, upcycled old book, or whatever you like) if they choose.

June 12-15 (12:30pm-2:30pm): Camp Art 1 – Accordion-Fold Bookmaking

Make your very own sketchbook! Bookbinding traditions date back over 1500 years, and despite the dawn of the digital age, are still just as relevant today. For artists, sketchbooks are an exciting and personal way to develop skills, play with ideas, and discover techniques. In this class, artists will learn a simple style of bookbinding to create a small book that is both fun and functional, complete with decorative covers.
Use your sketchbook for your next art class, start a journal, take notes or whatever you like!

June 14 – July 19 (Wednesdays, 6:30pm-8:30pm): Introduction to Improv

This intro-level performance class is all about thinking on your feet! Learn about foundational acting techniques through games and scenes made up completely on the spot. Each night, your instructor will introduce new performance concepts before incorporating them into common improv games and structures that use the actor’s tools (voice, body, and imagination) to bring scenes to life. Bring your energy and your smile, and let’s have fun!

June 15 (Thursday, 6:30pm-8:30pm): Gel Press Monoprinting

Create one of a kind masterpieces with this fun and engaging printmaking class! Using simple texture tools and a specially treated gel pad, this modern printmaking method produces layered images with a unique style. Your instructor will demonstrate a variety of printing techniques, then you’ll be free to play around with the media and press to bring your vision to life. Participants typically make 3-5 pieces in this 2 hour class.

June 17 – July 22 (Saturdays, 11am-1pm): Introduction to Installation Art

Creating large-scale, public, or other installation-based artwork can be intimidating, even for established visual artists who are looking to take their work off the easel. This class will look at some of the history and development of installation art and techniques, then will walk students through the ideation and design processes for creating their OWN installation artwork. Your instructor will also discuss opportunities and avenues for turning your designs and ideas into reality at local events, galleries, and public spaces.

June 22 (Thursday, 6:30pm-8:30pm): Introduction to Neurographic Drawing

Explore this calming and restorative art form that you can easily recreate when you need a mindful moment! Neurographic arts is a transformative, therapeutic style that uses a few basic principles and guidelines to mimic the look of synaptic relays in the brain and neurons while processing stress, trauma, or any other mental blockage you may be facing. This extremely relaxing and accessible artform is easy to learn and applicable any time. Participants will be guided through the process of drawing the neurographic lines while discussing the application of art-as-therapy in this unique workshop.

June 29 (Thursday, 6:30pm-8:30pm): Mark Making Abstracts

Painting can be intimidating, even when you’re trying to make abstract art. This workshop uses craft foam and recycled cardboard to create mark-making stamps to make an abstract acrylic painting more accessible, and to simplify the process of creating a fabulous painting! Your
instructor will discuss the wide variety of mark-making techniques and how to use them in painting before demonstrating how to make your very own mark-making stamps. Participants will create a finished abstract art piece on canvas board and a series of 3-5 foam stamps

July 5-7 (9:30am-11:30am): Kids Mini Camp – Faux Watercolors

Love that watercolor vibe but hesitant to dive into the word of watercolor painting? This class introduces an inexpensive, easy to learn alternative to abstract watercolors that’ll get you hooked! Amanda will demonstrate the basic technique and several options for finishing pieces, then you’ll be free to play around with the media and bring your visions to life.

July 5-7 (12:30pm-2:30pm): Kids Mini Camp – Faux Watercolors

Explore the combination of collage and mark making to create fun abstract artwork! Using a variety of collage papers, students will create a large collaged base, before decorating the work further with basic mark-making techniques. To shake things up, students will cut their collages into smaller pieces and rearrange them for the final piece! It’s an exciting exploration of the medium that focuses on process over product and allows students to let loose and truly play!

This workshop is “process over product” and participants typically take home up to a dozen printed pages and art pieces.

Give these abstract art trends a try! Fluid acrylic is accessible for any age, and almost always creates stunning results. Learn techniques including paint mixing and popular pour styles, choose your own colors and start to create some beautiful works of art suitable for framing!
